Ice fishing in New Brunswick

The permanent shelters are made of wood or metal and usually have wheels for easy transport. They can be as basic as a bunk heater and holes or have satellite television, bathrooms, stoves, full-size beds and may appear to be more like a mobile home than a fishing house.

The idea is to keep the fisherman away from the elements so that he's comfortable while fishing. Some don't care about aesthetics ;-)

This shelters is getting some poetic aspect, with this vivid color and his hand-made style, using recycled materials.

@Gérard Beullac: They will make the hut out of anything that can keep them warm. This one did do a lot of recycling.

Ils n'ont pas peur que la glace craque sous la maison???

@Sebastien: Merci Sebastien! Il sont sur un lac d'eau douce, la glace est très épaisse. Ils y voyagent aussi avec leurs véhicules. Il ne sont que environ 75 à 100 mètres de la rive et le dégèle débute toujours à la rive alors ils ont le temps d'enlever leur cabanes.

Il y en a quelques unes comme ça devant chez-moi ! La pêche n'est pas très bonne cette année mais c'est toujours plaisant de se retrouver entre amis au grand air !!!

@Bertrand Duhamel: Les gens m'ont dit que ici aussi que la pêche n'était pas fameux cette année. Mais la camaraderie du groupe est plaisante.

@franz: From what I can see, the wind must have been coming through the walls. Some are not very good carpenters. ;-)

Great shot! Now that's a HUT ... stovepipe, front DOOR and the infamous blue tarp coverage.
Here in Florida we're used to seeing these tarps on rooftops after a hurricane, so this is a totally different use!
