Ice fishing in New Brunswick

New Brunswick regulations on ice huts:
• cannot be placed on the ice prior to Jan. 1.
• must be removed prior to midnight April 2 or earlier.
• must bear the name and address of the owner in print

This ice hut has a small cooking stove which also helps heat the hut. A home away from home.

L'Angevine from Angers, France

j'adore cette cuisinière et le bleu du mur

24 Feb 2012 9:02am

@L'Angevine: Merci! Le bleu est un isolant pour empêcher la chaleur et la flamme de la cuisinière de brûler le mur.

Ana Lúcia from Leiria, Portugal

Great detail and colors.

24 Feb 2012 11:35am

@Ana Lúcia: Thank you Ana!

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

Interesting view inside the hut. Looks like there is a frying pan to cook each fish caught!

24 Feb 2012 12:54pm

@Stephen: No, this way he can cook 3 batches of fish before he has to clean up the pans ;-)

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

HDR Don?
Surely that isn't a wood burning stove is it? (Perhaps it is)

24 Feb 2012 1:26pm

@Curly: There was a thin fog inside the hut (warm outside, door was open, no heat and fog coming from the ice hole), you can see it from yesterday's post. So I tried a few things to get more details and HDR worked best. Yes the stove is a wood burning one.

Bruno F from France

Not only does it provide heat but also the ability to eat your catch fresh from the water! Nicely captured Don! ;-)

@Eric Cousineau: Thanks Eric! I could smell fried salmon in the air. ;-)

Judy aka L@dybug from Brooksville, FL, United States

Now I understand the need of wood in the hut ... for the stove. Thanks for sharing the images of the interior!
